15 September 2010 The Hague Public meeting on Democracy in Africa with focus on three countries including Zimbabwe, on the International Day of Democracy ZEN in cooperation with the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy, the European Partnership for Democracy and Zimbabwe Watch hosts this event to highlight democractic developments on the African continent.
14 September 2010 European Parliament, Brussels "2nd Anniversary of the signing of the Global Poitical Agreement - time to celebrate?". Zimbabwean civil society leaders and Members of the European Parliament discuss the situation and potential ways forward for Zimbabwe and its relation with the European Union. Programme. High profiled Portugese Member of the European Parliament Ana Gomes of the S&D party hosts this roundtable in the parliament which will be addressed by Parliamentarians and civil society leaders on the eve of the 2nd Anniversary of the signing of the GPA.

ZEN, in co-operation with Swedish partner organisations Diakonia and Olof Palme International Centre, hosts a seminar at the Olof Palme International Centre looking at the achievements since the inauguration of the Inclusive Government and discussing ways the international community can assist in light of the just concluded donor conference in Oslo 1 June. The Swedish Ambassador to Harare, HE Sten Rylander will be among the speakers, together with Zimbabwean civil society leaders.

ZEN held its 6 month internal review meeting in Brussels which also had supplementary elections to the Board of Directors.
2 June 2010 EC Commission / Mundo B, BRUSSELS Roundtable in Brussels presenting outcomes and reactions of "Friends of Zimbabwe" donor meeting. For the program click here. ZEN, in co-operation with our Belgian member organisation Entraide et Fraternite, hosted a roundtable at which results of the 1 June donor conference in Oslo was discussed by leaders from Zimbabwean civil society. Claudia Wiedey-Nippold, Head of Southern Africa Unit at the European Commission, who participated in the meeting presented the findings of the meeting.

Report of roundtable.

ZEN, in co-operation with our Norwegian member organisation NPA, other Norwegian NGOs and the Norwegian Trade Union Confederation LO, organised a roundtable highlighting the Zimbabwean civil society's demands to the donors meeting in Oslo 1 June. Zimbabwean civil society leaders representing labour, church organisations, human rights organisations and other civil society organisations in Zimbabwe presented. The deputy minister of Foreign Affairs was part of the opening ceremony. The Norwegian Ambassador to Zimbabwe was also in attendance.

ZEN organised a team to visit key European countries to high light that Zimbabwe has turned 30 on 18 April 2010.

24 April 2010 Haagse Hogschool, the Hague, Netherlands Side meeting at the EVS Africa Day: 30 years independence in Zimbabwe - right to decent life ZEN co-hosted a workshop during the annual Evert Vermeer Africa Day celebrations in the Netherlands with Zimbabwe Watch and FNV Mondiaal. Civil Society Roundtable: Role of the donors in current Zimbabwe.

The role of the donors is important in Zimbabwe where the previous government blamed major donor countries for a lot of the ills of the country. After the inclusion of the former opposition MDC parites into the government, civil society is the main critical force in the country. ZEN invited the main donors to talk about their policy towards Zimbabwe presently and in the immidiate future. Main actors in the donor community, the head of the Fishmonger Group of donors, German Ambassador Albrecht Conze, and the host of the next meeting of the informal donor group "Friends of Zimbabwe", Norwegian Ambassador Gunnar Foreland spoke on behalf of the donors.

Roundtable in co-operation with the European Parliament's Delegation to the Pan African Parliament on the accomplishments and challenges facing the Inclusive Government of Zimbabwe one year after its formation, hosted by the chair of the PAP Delegation MEP Michael Gahler, EPP together with MEP Ana Gomes, S&D (Portugal), MEP Judith Sargentini, Greens (Netherlands), MEP Olle Schimdt, ALDE (Sweden) and MEP Geoffrey van Orden, ECR (UK). The first anniversary since the formation of the inclusive government in Zimbabwe provides an opportunity to discuss its successes and failures; strengths and weaknesses; and the challenges ahead.

15-12/09 ZARWU HQ, Bulawayo Meeting on the Zimbabwe Europe Network's plans for 2010.

The Zimbabwe Europe Network hosted a meeting with Matebeleland based civil society organisations. The meeting provided an introduction to ZEN and its activities as well as a general discussion on how ZEN could influence European policies towards Zimbabwe through its advocacy work in Europe.

Civil society meeting on donor re-engagement, restrictive measures and Zimbabwe Europe Network plans for 2010

The Zimbabwe Europe Network hosted a meeting for Zimbabwean civil society organisations on the question of donor re-engagement with the government of Zimbabwe, restrictive measures and how ZEN can influence policy on Zimbabwe through its advocacy efforts in Europe. Speakers included the Head of Delegation of the EU in Zimbabwe as well as the Ambassador of the Netherlands.

ZEN hosted a conference for stakeholders interested in the development of Zimbabwe. The conference focused on the current state of affairs in Zimbabwe, the influence of IFIs and restrictive measures on economic recovery and the role donors can play in ending the political crisis in Zimbabwe.

8 February 2009 Harare Consultation with civil society in Zimbabwe The iniators of Zimbabwe Europe Network held consultation meetings with Zimbabwean civil society to discuss the creation of a European body to lobby EU / European countries and institutions. A Zimbabwean Reference group was elected.
30-31 October 2008 Brussels Meeting of European Organisations working in or on Zimbabwe After the signing of the Global Political Agreement Dutch civil society organisations active with Zimbabwe organised in Zimbabwe Watch organised a discussion with European partners to discuss how to act in this new situation.
