Zimbabwe UPR report discussed at UN Human Rights Council

During the last session of the UN Human Rights Council Zimbabwe’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report, which reviews the human rights situation in the country, was discussed.

Mr. Okay Machisa (ZimRights) and Ms. Blessing Gorejena (Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum) made contributions on behalf of Zimbabwean civil society.

While civil society commended the Government of Zimbabwe for its continued engagement with the UPR process, it remained concerned by the Government’s refusal to accept key recommendations that would improve the country’s human rights record.

Despite endorsements of Government’s efforts from countries such as Syria, Iran, North Korea, and Sudan, civil society remained concerned about the restricted operating environment for human rights defenders.
